A SDO along with a clerk of electricity department has been arrested by Punjab Vigilance Bureau for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 10,000 for increasing the load of tubewell connection in Sangrur district of the state.
“Siri Ram, a SDO of POWERCOM posted at village Lasoi in Tehsil Malerkotla of Punjab’s Sangrur district along with consumer clerk Bhag Singh were arrested by sleuths of Vigilance bureau while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 10,000 and Rs 500 respectively from a complainant,” said Sursh Arora, Chief Director-cum-DGP Vigilance Bureau said.
Arora said that they received a complaint from Baljinder Kaur in which she had alleged that the duo were demanding bribe from her for enhancing consumer load of her tubewell connection.
“We conducting investigations after receiving the complaint and laid a trap to nab the accused. The duo was arrested in the presence of two government officials as witnesses while they were accepting bribe of Rs 10,000 and Rs 500 respectively from Kaur,” Arora said.
A vigilance case under sections 7, 13 (1) read with 13 (2) of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 has been registered at Vigilance Bureau Police Station Patiala and the officials are further investigating the matter.
