New Delhi/June 13
For now on if you don’t have money to pay for air tickets, you can pay for airfare through EMIs (Equated monthly installments).
India’s two airlines IndiGo and Jet Airways have started the scheme in collaboration with HDFC bank, ICICI and Citibank to allow passengers to purchase air tickets through credit cards and make payments thorugh EMIs.
Both the airlines have adopted these strategies counter fierce competition in the aviation sector.
However, the passengers will have to pay 14 percent additional service tax on air tickets besides 1 percent tax will charged by these companies as processing fee to avail this EMI option through credit cards.
As per reports, the passengers will have to pay the airfare in two months period with 15 percent more tax on tickets.
The airlines, reportedly, tried to convince banks to offer interest-free EMIs the same way they offered in the case of mobile phone handsets but banks authorities didn’t accept their offer.
