Newborn baby girls dumped in drain in Punjab's Gurdaspur district

Two newborn baby girls were dumped in a drain in Batala area of Punjab’s Gurdaspur district on Wednesday.
The bodies of newborn girls were noticed by a farmer when he saw stray dogs huddling around the bodies after which he informed the police.
“Initial investigations reveals that the girls might be a day old and their parents might have dumped them in the drain as they were girls,” said the police, adding that they have registered a case in this regard and they are trying to trace the parents of the infants.
Punjab and its neighbouring state Haryana is infamous for the practice female foeticide and as a result has lowest sex ratio in the country.
