The Election Commission of India on Friday deferred voting in Himachal’s disaster affected Kinnaur district to June 27, however, counting of votes will take place on June 30 as scheduled.
Himachal’s Chief Electoral officer Narendra Chauhan said that due to the poor road connectivity it was not possible to conduct election on June 23 as per earlier schedule. The voting for Mandi by-poll in Mandi and Lahaul Spiti district will be held on June 23, meanwhile, voting in Kinnaur district will now take place on June 27, he added.
The tribal Kinnaur district has around 55000 voters. The 118 polling stations of this districts have difficult access.
Heavy rains have completely paralysed normal life in Kinnaur district which was cut off from rest of the state due to massive landslides and breaches in Hindustan- Tibet National Highway at numerous places. The link roads in Kinnaur too had got damaged badly.
