CII organizes conference on Apple Marketing and Post Harvest Management

Confederation of Indian Industries Himachal Pradesh on Friday organized one day conference in Shimla on “Apple Marketing and Post Harvest Management – Buyer Seller Meet and Linking Farmers to the Markets”.
While speaking as Chief Guest during the inaugural session of the conference Minister for Horticulture, Public Health & Irrigation Vidya Stokes on Friday reaffirmed the commitment of the government to strengthen the apple marketing and post harvest infrastructure in the state.
She emphasized on sustainable growth of apples against climate change and to insulate farmers from vagaries of nature.
Stokes mentioned that HP over the years has become model hill state for development of horticulture. Principal Secretary, Home & Horticulture Tarun Shridhar emphasized on the need for accurate data on post harvest losses and investments in pre-harvest technologies, branding and marketing of apples. Shridhar imparted that we must focus on quantitative as well as qualitative aspects of apple cultivation so as to build the confidence of the growers as well as consumer.
Managing Director, HP Horticultural Produce Marketing and Processing Corporation Limited J C Sharma shared ambitious plans for robust and modernized revival of HPMC. Director General, National Institute of Agricultural Marketing R P Meena shared the initiatives taken by NIAM to create linkages between farmers and the buyers and assured all possible help and assistance to the Government of Himachal Pradesh in this regard.

Earlier Chairman Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) Himachal Pradesh State Council Akash Garg delivered the welcome remarks and mentioned about the CII’s commitment to work towards sustainable development of horticulture in the state.

Convenor, CII Panel on Tourism & Horticulture Ajit Butail delivered the vote of thanks and mentioned about CII initiatives during past four years and thanked NIAM and Blue Star Ltd for their support for the programme.

The programme featured sessions on Agriculture Marketing, Post Harvest Management and Panel Discussion on Changing Market Scenario.
Other distinguished speakers included, General Manager Blue Star India LtD. M S Reddy,Managing Director, HP State Agricultural Marketing Board Dr H S Baweja and others. Over 90 apple growers from all across the state participated at the programme.
