Chinese man declared woman after living 66 years of life as man

New Delhi/June 4
In a shocking incident that was reported in a Hong Kong hospital and is the only sixth such in Medical literature, a 66-year-old Chinese man was declared woman by doctors while he had gone to a hospital seeking treatment for abdominal swelling.
After the medical examination, the doctors from Hong Kong’s Kwong Wah Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital found that the abdominal swelling was a cyst on his ovary and he was in fact a woman.
The discovery was made public after tt was published in the Hong Kong Medical Journal yesterday.
The patient, by definition, is a woman who cannot get pregnant but she also has congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) which gave her the appearance of a man.
It’s an interesting and very rare case of having the two combinations and it probably won’t be seen again in the near future, said a Chinese doctor.
The 66-year-old Vietnam-born Chinese man is an orphan and he had decided to continue to live his life as male and may receive male hormone treatment. “On questioning, the patient disclosed that a long history of urinary leakage and arrest of growth after the age of 10 years. This is only sixth such in the history of medical literature in which the patient was diagnosed later in life than any of the others as most sufferers were identified in prenatal tests,” the report said.
As per reports, the condition is caused by a very rare combination of two genetic disorders and the Turner’s syndrome that cause women to lack some female features, including the ability to get pregnant.
In such cases, patients usually look like women but in his case, the patient also had CAH that boosted the male hormones and made the patient look like a man.
Turner’s syndrome has an estimated prevalence of one in 2,500 to 3,000 females. The patients usually had the appearance of girls and the condition was identified when they reached puberty and did not menstruate.
