Punjab government on Tuesday okayed multilevel robotic car parking system for all Corporation Towns to solve the problem of parking in these areas of the state.
Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today okayed the car parking project in all congested commercial areas of all Corporation Towns after reviewing the infrastructure requirements of various Local Bodies especially the Corporation Cities.
Badal asked Secretary Local Government Ashok Gupta to go for global meeting for setting up robotic car parking system in all corporation cities.
“Parking problem is peculiar to the state with Punjab having the unique distinction of maximum vehicle density on the roads and in the fast growing economy of Punjab, the infrastructure has to keep a pace with increasing development and scientific parking system was the need of the hour,” Badal said.
Badal also issued directions to all Commissioners to identify suitable locations for setting up multi-level robotic car parking and asked the Secretary to submit a proposal by next Monday positively.
“The Commissioners besides working out the robotic car parking system, should also look into variable parking system as per the vehicle density and usage of different areas,” Sukhbir said, adding that the vehicles parked illegally around the roads and in the commercial areas should be toed away and asked the officials to implement these directions strictly.
“No body can be allowed to hinder the smooth flow of traffic and traffic police has to be vigilant against unauthorized parking. Further, it is imperative for the Local Bodies and Housing Departments to ensure parking space in housing colonies and these instructions should be followed strictly,” he added.
