Assistant Registrar of HPU arrested in fake marksheet scandal

The Assistant Registrar of Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) was on Friday arrested for allegedly forging a fake mark-sheet for his son.

Deputy Suprintendent of Police Balbir Jaswal has confirmed the arrest. “The Assistant Registrar Balkrishan Sharma has been arrested on charges of cheating

and a case under sections 420, 467, 468, 471,120-B IPC had been registered against him,” Jaswal said.

Jaswal said that they conducted investigations in the case after which we found the allegations true and arrested Balkrishan.

The arrest came a day after Student Federation of India’s campus chief, Rahul Chauhan filed a complaint in this regard.

Chauhan had alleged that Sharma had forged a fake marksheet for his son Kartik Sharma who is a student of BA Part III, bearing roll No. 11139496. “Kartik was allegedly awarded BA III Marksheet without even appearing in the exam,” Chauhan said.

Chauhan had alleged collusion of Examination Branch BA III, Evaluation Branch and Computer Branch officials of HPU for the fake marksheet scandal.

The matter came to light when Kartik Sharma, son of Assistant Registrar submitted the detailed mark-sheet to apply for a clerical job in HPU. As the University authorities checked his record and found that Kartik had even appear in the exam. Further, there was no record of the (DMC) in the examination branch.

As per the mark sheet, the student Kartik Sharma had obtained 601 out of 1000 marks in the consolidated BA (pass course) III marks sheet while he purportedly secured 390 in part I and II examination and 211 marks in Part III examination.

Chauhan added that the fake mark sheet of son of a university employee raises a serious question mark on the secrecy and reliability of the varsity. “A judicial enquiry should be ordered into case to find irregularities in examination section,” he added.
Meanwhile, HPU Vice Chancellor, A D N Bajpai said that a three member high level committee had been appointed to probe the matter and strict action would be taken against the employees indicted by the committee.
