Punjab govt increases compensation to rape victims by Rs 1 lakh

Punjab government on Thursday increased the compensation amount to the victims of sexual assaults and their dependents in the state.
A Punjab government spokesperson said that the compensation amount to be paid to victims of sexual assaults and their dependents has been increased by Rs 1 lakh to Rs 3 lakh in case of rape while Rs 4 lakh to be paid to the next of kin in case of murder with rape. Earlier, the state government was providing a compensation amount of Rs 2 lakh and Rs 3 lakh respectively.
“Punjab government is also providing compensation of Rs 50,000 to the victim of Human Trafficking, child abuse and kidnapping, Rs 10,000 to the simple loss or injury to child victims and Rs 20,000 to the Rehabilitation of women and children,” said the spokesman, adding that Rs 3 lakh was being provided to the victim of acid attack in case of disfigurement of face and Rs 50,000 for other cases and injury.
