Iconic Punjabi play writer Dr Charandass Sidhu on Monday passed away in Delhi after a prolonged illness. Dr Sidhu was survived by wife and five daughters.
Sidhu was born on March 14, 1938 at village Bham of Hoshiarpur district and he had created unique identity in the field of writing Punjabi plays that got acclaim in all spheres especially in the field of Punjabi theatre.
Sidhu was awarded with Sahitya Akadmi, Bharti Sangeet Natak Akademi along with many other awards for his thoughtful plays.
Punjab’s Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal condoled his death and said that Sidhu will always be remembered for his everlasting contribution in the field of Punjabi plays as he wrote 37 plays.
