Haryana government on Wednesday announced to provide compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the dependent of schedule caste family’s earning member in case of his murder or death under the revised scheme Dr. Ambedkar National Relief to the Scheduled Caste Victims of Atrocities.
“The scheme is aimed at providing instant monetary assistance to Scheduled Castes victims of atrocities or their family members or dependents,” said a spokesman of Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes Department said, adding that in case of murder or death of non-earning member of family, financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh will be given to the SC family under the scheme.
The spokesperson said that the victims of rape will be given relief amount of Rs 2 lakh while a compensation of Rs 3 lakh will be provided in case of arson leading to complete homelessness of victims belonging to Scheduled Castes families.
“Similarly, relief amount of Rs 3 lakh will be provided in case of complete and permanent disability of earning member of family while in case of disability of non-earning member of a family, relief amount of Rs 1.5 lakh will be paid under the scheme,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson added that the state government will send the proposal for financial assistance to atrocities victims to the Dr Ambedkar Foundation for consideration and victim should be a Scheduled Castes who has suffered atrocities committed by other communities on the grounds of his or her caste, community or identity in the society.
“The atrocity should be of heinous type under the Prevention of Attrocities Act, 1989 like murder, rape, arson etc and the scheme will be in the nature of contingency arrangement to provide instant monetary relief to the victims of heinous offences of atrocities under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989,” he added.
