SAD terms Congress’ call for debate on Food Security bill as mere gimmick

Chandigarh/July 7
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Sunday termed the Congress party’s call for debate on Food Security Bill as mere gimmick as the party had chosen the path of ordinance to avoid a debate inside the Parliament.
“If they were so confident about the merits and success of this bill, then why did not they introduce it in the monsoon session of Parliament?,” said SAD Secretary and Spokesman Daljit Singh Cheema.
Cheema said that the Congress party has promised to bring food security bill in its election manifesto but did nothing till 2013. “Now when the elections have come and when everybody knows that people are well prepared to throw the Congress led UPA government out, it has enacted a drama by bringing this ordinance,” Cheema said, adding that Congress party will have to tell the Nation that who stopped Congress party from taking such an important decision for full nine years?
Cheema added that instead of criticising the SAD, the Congress should learn from them. “SAD has delivered whatever it promised in its election manifesto in the last term and the people of the state had in response awarded it by repeating the SAD-BJP goverment in Punjab. Similarly, this time also the alliance is on the same path of full filling it’s commitments and the result of all the elections of Municipal Corporations, PRIs and by elections of Dasuya and Moga are an ample proof of people’s unstinting faith in the alliance government,” he added.
