Punjab issues strict instructions to school bus owners to follow safety norms

Punjab government on Friday issued instructions transport companies plying school buses to strictly follow safety guidelines issued by the state and any laxity in following the norms could lead to cancellation of licenses.
“It is unfortunate that due to accidents and negligence in driving, more than 4,000 persons lose their lives in Punjab every year,” said a Punjab government spokesperson said, adding that the government has issued directions to the Transport Authorities to ensure the fitness of the vehicles while a strict vigil on the regulation of speed of the vehicles on roads.
The spokesperson said that the drivers should be fully trained and carrying the complete papers while moving out.
“The state government has also directed the buses and auto rickshaw owners not to take school students’ beyond the allowed capacity of the vehicle and erring owners will have to face severe action even the cancellation of their work permit,” he added.
