Punjab govt sanctions 280 new tube wells for Kandi area

Punjab government on Sunday sanctioned 280 new tube wells in Kandi area for which Irrigation department will soon float tenders for digging tube wells.
Punjab’s Irrigation minister Janmeja Singh Sekhon said that the state government has conducted a comprehensive study regarding irrigation requirement in the Kandi area and as per findings of that study, 280 spots were identified for digging deep tube wells.
“Irrigation Department will soon float tender for digging of 280 tube wells and 140 deep tube wells will be handed over to farmer community by September 30,” Sekhon said, adding that remaining 140 will become operational by March 31, 2014.
Sekhon said that state government has approved the project for digging up drains for Kotla, Sidhwan andEastern canal branch.
“Further, the state government has also approved the work for the relining of all minors in the state and in future, Irrigation department while tendering out these projects should make the construction agency accountable for maintaining that system for next 15 years,” he added.
