Free internet facility will soon be provided to the students of Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) who resides in its hostels.
HPU has taken this decision in an emergent meeting of varsity’s executive council meeting that was held under the chairmanship of Vice chancellor ADN Bajpai here on Friday.
“A sum of Rs 62 lakh would be spent to prvide free internet facility to hostel students and the the expenditure will be shared by the government of India and HPU in the 75:25 ratio,” said a HPU spokesperson.
However, sources said that no concensus can be arrived on the fresh recruitments in HPU in the EC meeting while the issue of promotions of teachers under career advancement scheme also remained pending.
In an another decision, it was decided by EC that all departments of HPU will contribute some money which they were receiving under self financing scheme so that the salary can be given to the employees working under Indian Institute of Himalayan Studies (IIHS) as the institute is facing the threat of its closure due to financial constraints.
EC also gave its nod to fill the 43 vacant posts of clerks in various departments. The annual demands were also approved and these would be place before the University Court for the final approval. EC members Bambar Thakur, Harish Janartha, Chander Shekhar, Devi Ram Verma, SK Sharma, Director Higher Edcuation and others took part in the EC meeting.
