Compensation to be provided on priority to Kinnaur farmers: Himachal CM

Shimla/July 2
Himachal Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh on Tuesday announced to provide compensation to Kinnaur district’s farmers whose crops have been affected by incessant rains.
Singh said that apple, peas and rajma crops have been severely damaged due to incessant rains and flash floods in tribal district and the state government will provide cash incentives to the farmers at their doorsteps on priority. “Teams of horticulture and agriculture departments have already reached the rain-hit area to evaluate the losses and there are reports of heavy damage to crops,” Singh said, adding that the state government will provide adequate compensation to farmers.
Singh added that the tribal district has suffered a loss of Rs 2,275 crore to the private and public property in the unprecedented rains.
As per the reports of Himachal’s horticulture department, 90 percent of apple crop in the district has been destroyed which is known for red and golden apples and that are the mainstay of local residents.
Himachal CM Virbhadra Singh has met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Delhi and had sought financial relief of Rs 1,000 crore for relief and restoration work.
