75 percent subsidy to be provided for farmers of Punjab’s 10 districts

With a view to encourage crop diversification in the state, Punjab government on Thursday announced to provide 75 percent subsidy on maize seeds for the farmers of ten districts.
Punjab Chief Parliamentary Secretary Agriculture Gurbachan Singh Babbehali today said that initially the subsidy will be provided to the farmers of Barnala, Fathegarh Sahib, Jalandhar, Kapurthla, Ludhiana, Moga, Patiala, Ropar, Sangrur and Mohali districts which will be further extended to remaining districts in the second phase.
“Agriculture Department will provide 75 percent subsidy on hybrid seeds of maize P 3396 and TX 369 under PPP mode with which a farmer can get a yield of more than 9 tonnes per hectare,” he said, adding that farmers can contact to State Nodal Officer, Chandigarh on phone no. 0172-2668087 and mobile no. 98143-71021 or Chief Agriculture Officers of the concerned Districts to get maize seeds.
He added that the state government is making elaborate arrangements for marketing of the crop and |maize driers are being installed at Saila Khurd in Hoshiarpur district and at Nawan Shahr to facilitate farmers.
