Punjab government today gave its approval for setting up 20 fast track courts in the state for the speedy trial of cases of crimes against women.
Disclosing this, a spokesperson for Chief Minister said that the decision was taken in a cabinet meeting today to provide the speedy trial to women who are the victims of cases of heinous crimes. “The Cabinet also gave its nod for creating 20 additional posts of Superior Judicial Services along with the supporting staff to provide immediate justice to the women,” said the spokesperson.
In addition to this, the government will recruit six Deputy Superintendents of Police, 36 Inspectors, 415 Lady Sub-inspectors and 400 Lady Constables in Punjab Police to control the crime against women and sexual assault cases on women in the state. The move will put an additional burden of Rs.18.04 crores annually on the state exchequer, added the spokesperson.
