Himachal Pradesh University will soon start its own community radio station with an aim to provide students knowledge and information related to education, health and environment, social, cultural and local issues.
HPU Vice Chancellor, ADN Balpei said that the community radio will be set up on the pattern of Punjab University’s community radio “Jyortigamaya. “The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication will setup the radio station and it aims to provide information to students residing in the remote, far flung and tribal areas of the state, at their doorsteps speedily,” Bajpei said.
Bajpei further stated that it will also provide a platform for dialogue and discussion amongst the community members, students and faculty. He also stressed the need for using the funds given by UGC in a time bound manner with proper monitoring, to provide better facilities and raise the quality of education in the campus. He underlined the need that the funds given by the UGC must be utilized to increase the better facilities for the students at the campus and particularly in the hostels.
Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor reviewed the ongoing projects in the campus to which allocation of Rs. 2.54 crores was made during November last year. He said that the proposal for establishment of students computer service centre on the campus has been given as top most priority. Bajpai said that the Library of the University would be strengthen through a data-base and the entry of the records with basic infrastructure of examination data centre and the cyber centre in the University would also be strengthened.
