Shimla/ August 5
Former Himachal chief Minister and veteran Congress leader Virbhadra Singh declared that his only aim was to oust the corrupt BJP government and he was not concerned about his own future.
“My fight is only for ousting the corrupt BJP government and I am not
concerned about myself”, he said while addressing the “Parivartan
rally” at Una on Sunday. The Congress was sure to win the assembly polls provided that the selection of candidates was proper and dedicated workers were given tickets, he said.
Lashing out at the BJP government led by Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal , he said that government money was being misused for advertising the achievements of the government and the government which failed to do anything for the people during four and a half years was now distributing uniforms to school students. Recruitments were being made in Police on the eve of Assembly polls and Dhumal and his colleagues were issuing atrocious statements to give vent to their frustration but the people would not be misguided by such “election stunts”.
He accused the government of showering favours and announcing sops
ahead of polls and said that he had made a complaint to Election
commission of India (ECI) in this regard but no action had been taken
so far. He reiterated the charge that Dhumal government was unleashing
political vendetta and victimizing the Congress workers while the
administration was helping the BJP workers.
AICC general secretary and incharge of Himachal Chowdhary Birender
Singh said that the party tickets would be given to strong and winning
candidates and weak candidates, including the sitting MlLAs would not
be fielded. Changes would be made in candidates keeping in view the rearrangements of seats following delimitation but winning prospects and loyalty to party would be the main criteria. However, all workers would work for the official party candidates after the names of the candidates were announced and any attempt to weaken the party would not be tolerated, he said.
He said that the Congress would gherao the Vidhan sabha during the
monsoon session and also submit a memorandum against the BJP
government to the President , seeking a CBI probe into corruption
charges. He praised Virbhadra Singh that he had done a lot a during last 50 years. ” Virbhadra Singh is strength of Congress and Congress party is his strength”, he added. HPCC president, Kaul singh thakur said that the present BJP government has crossed all limits of corruption and Mining and land Mafia was ruling the roost. The state government was taking credit for the central schemes aand misleading the people by claiming these to be state sponsored schemes.
