Girls to have more say in HPU’s student poll

The fairer sex is not only fair in education but also in politics in
Himachal Pradesh University.(HPU). In HPU the girl students have not only outnumbered boys hands down in Ph.d, gold medals but they are dominating in the field of politics too. The official figure of total number of students enrolled in HPU speaks that that the number of girl students is much higher than boy students.

According to voters list displayed by the HPU administration for SCA polls for the session 2012-13 out of total 3100 voters students 1700 are girls and the number of boys is around 1400. Four members for the Student Central Association including forty five departmental representatives (D.R.s) from twenty seven (27) teaching departments are to be elected by these voters.

The election for the student body in HPU campus along with 97 affilitated colleges are being held on August 23 this year. This day is expected to witness the participation of around two lakh voters in the state. But the results of HPU students polls are always bearing highest importance because of the highest institute of learning.

The student body elections are being conducted strictly on Lyngdoh Committee recommendations without violence and in a congenial atmosphere for studies.

These include 65 Government Colleges, 25 Non-Government Degree Colleges, five (5) Government Sanskrit Colleges and two (2) non- government affiliated Sanskrit Colleges, besides post-graduate centre of the University with Centre for Evening Studies and Regional Centre Dharamshala.

“It is true that the number of girl students is more than boys in HPU. Record says that girl students are dominating boys in the field of academics too. Last year around 500 students of HPU had cleared various competitive examination like NET, SET, Himachal Pradesh Administrative Services( (HPAS) and others, in which number of girls student was more than 300, HPU spokesman, Ranvir Verma said.

Girl students’ stride in the field of education reflects that various women welfare schemes of the government have started paying rich dividends, he added.

It is not only the field of academic but in the field of active politics too where the girls have started to dominate the boys. Every student organization has given them due weightage by including girls candidate in their panels.

The girls are participating in dharnas, rallies and demonstrations in good numbers and even marched many a times upto the Raj Bhawan under the banner of different student organization. In actions girls many a times outnumbered boys.
