Panchayat elections in Punjab will be held on July 3, a spokesperson of State Election Commission (SEC) said on Thursday.
The SEC Commissioner SS Brar said that polling for panchayat elections will take place on July 3, 2013 and nomination process will start from June 19 and will continue upto June 22.
Meanwhile, the scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on June 24 and the candidates can withdraw their nominations till June 25.
The counting of votes and polling in over 19,000 booths would be held on July 3.
“All necessary arrangements had already been made in this regard and the code of conduct will come into force from June 19,” Brar added.
Meanwhile, Punjab’s Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today hailed the verdict of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which dismissed the petition filed by PPCC president Partap Singh Bajwa challenging the Wardbandi of Panchayats of Punjab, notified by the Rural Development and Panchayat Deptt.
Badal described the verdict as defeat for politics of obstructionism said that it was a pathetic self-goal by PPCC president Partap Singh Bajwa and the Congress is now a compulsive loser, facing defeat in courts of law after defeats in people’s courts.
