Punjab govt assures farmers of 8 hours electricity for Kharif sowing season

Punjab Government on Sunday announced that it has completed all arrangement for the Paddy Cultivation in the state that will start from tomorrow and had made special efforts to ensure non stop 8 hour electricity supply to the farmers as well as the arrangement of desirable pesticides and fertilizers for Kharif sowing season.
“Keeping in view the paddy cultivation in the state, Rs 1600 crore has been incurred to purchase the electricity for the paddy season and farmers will daily get electricity supply for 8 hours from June 10,” said a Punjab government spokesperson, adding that state government at present has managed to generated 3600 MW electricity from all its resources whereas there is demand of 8900 MW electricity during the current season of cultivation of paddy.
He said that the Punjab State Power Corporation (PSPCL) has been purchasing the surplus power required for paddy cultivation by incurring Rs 1600 crore and out of the total procurement of power, 1950 MW electricity is being purchased for shorter time period whereas 3350 MW electricity will be procured for longer time period.
“Executive Engineers and SDOs have been given instructions to ensure the smooth electricity supply and the Canal Department has also completed all arrangement for the irrigation purpose,” he added.
Meanwhile, Punjab government has chalked out an ambitious plan worth Rs 1900 crore for the implementation of the Greening Punjab Mission with the target to increase the forest area from 7 to 15 percent in next 7 years across the state.
Punjab’s Forest and Wildlife Preservation minister Surjit Kumar Jayani said that 40 crore saplings will be planted in all available vacant Government, Institutional and farm lands in the state.
