Punjab government on Friday raised ex-gratia amount to Rs 10 lakh for death of a government employee under different circumstances.
A Punjab government spokesperson said that the state government had implemented the recommendations of the 5th Punjab Pay commission regarding pension and other retirement benefits and has issued issued instructions regarding payment of ex-gratia for the death of government employee or the employee is permanently disabled and rendered unfit for further service.
“For these circumstances, the ex-gratia payment shall be made at the rate of Rs 1 lakh only on a uniform basis while in cases where death occurs in harness due to causes attributable to service i.e. for reasons which are directly or substantially connected with the performance of official duties and directly is clearly relatable to performance of such duties, the payment of ex-gratia shall be equal to 24 times the revised basic pay of the employee on the date of his/her death, with a minimum of Rs 2 lakh and maximum of Rs 4 lakh,” said the spokesperson.
The spokesperson added that similarly if death occurs in performance of duty such as dealing with riots, terrorist attack or enemy action, ex-gratia shall be paid Rs 10 lakh on a uniform basis.
“These instructions are issued in the light of implementation of the recommendations of the fifth punjab pay commission regarding pension and other retirement benefits and shall be deemed to have come into with effect from 1-1-2006,” he added.
