Breaking his silence for the first time on phone tapping scandal after he is chargesheeted in the case, former DGP I D Bhandari today alleged that he is being targeted in the case and termed the state government as the most corrupt government.
Bhandari said that he is being targeted by 6-7 influential people and claimed that not even a single phone has been tapped unlawfully.
Bhandari said that there is no documentary evidence against him in phone tapping case and SP D W Negi, associated with chief minister Virbhadra Singh for last 15 years, on April 25 issued the statement that a sub inspector Om Parkash has told him that some
officers were sending them to Chandigarh for bugging.
Bhandari said that he headed the CID wing at crucial time and later Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh thought that I too was part of political conspiracy.
“I am being projected as main accused in alleged illegal phone tapping case while truth is that there is not even a single case where unlawful phone tapping case has taken place in the state,” former DGP said.
He also leveled serious corruption allegations on government officials who are at helm of affairs in Virbhadra government and said that the investigations against these officials could take place as they are being protected by their political masters.
He said that on paper Rs 500 crore bitumen comes to the state but of this around one fifth actually disappears and does not reach the state and questioned as which officials are responsible for this lapse.
He said that when someone starts the investigation and gets closer to the case then he is transferred.
Former DGP added that government of the day indulges in lot of corruption and Vigilance is under them. “For impartial functioning, Vigilance department should be under some independent authority like Lokayukta,” he added.
