Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) on Thursday decided to start a short duration course in Urdu Journalism from next academic session.
IIMc has taken the decision to promote the proficiency of working journalists in Urdu language newspapers and the capabilities of media professionals in the Urdu language.
“The initiative to start the course has been taken after Indian Information and Broadcasting minister Manish Tewari had discussions with working journalists and editors of Urdu language newspapers at the recently concluded All India Conference of Urdu Editors,” said an IIMC spokesperson, adding that the representatives of the Urdu newspapers had requested the Minister to initiate skill and capacity building measures through short term courses in the medium.
IIMC had taken the decision to launch Urdu Journalism course in its 124th Meeting of the Executive Council yesterday.
”The course will be non-residential and working/freelance journalists in the Urdu language can apply for the course. Further, the course will focus on latest journalism practices, use of technology, copy-writing and writing for TV,” the spokesperson said.
