Case filed against Congress leader, medical officer for supplying arms to naxals

A local Congress leader along with medical officer of Maharshtra’s Gadchiroli district has been booked by police for trying to supply arms and explosives to naxalites.
Gadchiroli police officials have registered a case against Congress leader and former Zila Parishad president Bandopant Mallelwar and Dr Ravindra Karpe, a medical officer with Primary Health Centre after they recovered four detonators, 1 kg of gelatin, 10 rounds of AK-47 rifle, along with medicines and tarpaulin sheets from an ambulance last.
“Acting on an intelligence input, police officials stopped an ambulance of Porla Primary Health Centre near Tadgaon in Bhamragad tehsil of Gadchiroli and arrested four persons after arms and explosives were recovered from the vehicle,” said the police.
Police gave arrested the ambulance driver Sandeep Chndrapas, Chhanulal Shende, Jiwanlal Bobte, and Vivek Dhait, who works as driver for Congress leader Mallelwar and have registered a case in this regard against them.
“On interrogation, the accused revealed to the police that Mallelwar and Karpe had asked them to take the consignment to naxalites after which Mallelwar and Karpe were booked under relevant sections of IPC,” added the police.
