Three pilgrims were killed while 29 other suffered injuries after a Mahindra pickup, in which they travelling, fell into gorge on Sunday afternoon in Himachal’s Chamba district.
“The pilgrims were on their way to visit a local deity in Bholag village in Chuwari sub-division of Chamba district when the utility vehicle’s driver lost control over the vehicle and it fell into 150 feet deep gorge near Tirmath area in the afternoon today,” said the police.
In the accident, two persons identified as Virender Kumar (17) of Upla Chalera village, Rekha Devi (33) of Nichla Fogla village, died on the spot while Rekha Devi (22) of Chalera village died on the to hospital.
Meanwhile, the injured have been admitted in civil hospital Chamba and Dalhousie for further treatment.
Police officials said that overloading of the vehicle might the reason behind the accident and they have registered a case of negligent driving against him. Police is further investigating the matter.
