Tangnu Village gutted in fire in Himachal Pradesh

Saturday night turned out to be an unfortunate night for the residents of village Tangnu in Rohru tehsil of Shimla district when the total of 56 houses gutted into fire.

About 30 of the hundred-odd homes in the village were completely burnt down and more than 200 people were directly affected. They are being given shelter in a school building now. The fire tenders were stationed about 40 km from the village at Rohru tehsil, said the officials. Local residents and people from nearby villages played a major role in saving other houses and some shops in the area.

“The fire has also destroyed the local Mahasu temple and there is a big property loss,” said Bhagat Chand, the village Pradhan. The fire tenders reached after two hours despite ours being a roadside village, he complained. The district administration has given an immediate relief of Rs. 40,000 to the victim families. It has also provided blankets, stoves, gas cylinders and necessary bedding to the affected families.
