Punjab: 2 inmates injured in firing inside Bathinda Central Jail

Two inmates suffered bullet injuries in firing inside Bathinda Central Jail that reportedly took place between two groups inside jail complex on Thursday morning.

As per reports, the firing inside Bathinda Central Jail took place early this morning after an altercation took place between two groups lodged inside jail complex.

Police sources said that an undertrial in arms case identified as Kulbir Singh Naruana allegedly opened fire at Gurjit Singh Mahalkalan in which he and one other inmate suffered injuries.

Both the inmates have rushed to hospital with bullet injuries where they are undergoing medical treatment and their condition is said to be stable now.

However, Bathinda Central Jail authorities denied reports that any such incident had took place inside jail premises and refused to confirm the firing incident.

Police sources, meanwhile, said that the jail authorities are baffled as to how to firearms were smuggled into jail complex and how the undertrial Kulbir Singh Narauna was able to carry the gun with him in his barrack.

Police officials have registered a case in this regard and further investigations in the matter are on.

It is pertinent to mention here that Narauna had posted a picture on social networking website Facebook from inside Bathinda Central Jail, however, the picture was later removed after media reported the incident.
