HP to construct multi-purpose indoor sports complexes at all district headquarters

Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said that Himachal government intends to construct multi-purpose Indoor Sports complex at all the district headquarters where this facility was not available and was also mulling to develop sports fields and sports hostel at some places.

While speaking on the occasion of seventh State Level Deputy Commissioner’s Office Employees Sports competition here today, he said that to strengthen the youth club activities in the State, their annual grant had been enhanced to Rs. 20,000 during current financial year.

He congratulated around 300 participants from the nine districts of the state for participating in five events viz: cricket, volleyball, kabbadi, table tennis and badminton.

He said that he was happy to learn that the employees of DC offices apart from being occupied and overburdened with too much office work had spared their time for taking part in sports activities.

The chief Minister said with a view to promote the sports activities in the State, the government had proposed a budget of Rs. 35 crore in 2015-16. He said that the government was also going to set up a Football Academy at Dharamsala.

Virbhadra Singh also released a souvenir brought out on the occasion.

General Secretary, H.C. Gezta proposed vote of thanks.

State Youth Congress President Vikramaditya Singh, Chairman, State Pollution Control Board Kuldeep Singh Pathania, Deputy Commissioner Dinesh Malhotra, President of the DC Office Employees Sports Body D.N. Chauhan, senior Vice President Rajesh Sharma were also present on the occasion amongst others.
