Retired DRDO officer killed, wife injured in robbery bid

A retired DRDO officer was killed while his wife suffered serious injuries during a robbery bid at their residence in Bengaluru, allegedly by security guard on Tuesday morning.

As per reports, the security guard along with his three accomplices attacked the retired DRDO officer Rajappan Pillai and his wife Usha during wee hours on Tuesday.

Rajappan Pillai (70) was attacked with knife by the gang of four men including the security and all of them were Napalese national.

“The security guard reportedly woke the couple in the wee hours on Tuesday and as the retired DRDO officer opened, his three accomplices barged into the house with the intention to rob the elderly couple,” police said.

Police said that Pillai was stabbed to death by the accused while his wife suffered injuries as he resisted their robbery bid. “Later, the accused absconded from the spot with gold, silver ornaments along with some cash,” police said, adding that one of the accused was arrested as the retired DRDO officer’s wife raised an alarm.

Police official said that Pillai wife was rushed to hospital for medical treatment where she is undergoing treatment and her condition is said to be stable.

Police added that Pillai himself had hired the security guard but the retired DRDO officer had not got his antecedents verified at the time of hiring him or after that.

A case has been registered in this regard and a hunt is on nab three accused who are absconding after the incident.
