Passports to be transformed into e- passports by 2016 in India

The ministry of external affairs is mulling to launch e passport facility by 2016 in the country . To achieve this target ministry of external affairs is going to invite tenders soon.

Joint Secretary (PSP) and Chief Passport Officer Muktesh K Pardeshi while addressing to media, informed that these new passports will have a microprocessor chip embedded in it as well as biometric features.
The ministry of external affairs is receiving more than one crore applications every year. The Indian government is fetching a revenue of more than Rs. 2000 Crore by providing this service from the citizens.
