Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd was on Friday conferred with Greentech Environment Award 2015 for environment management for its Sainj Hydroelectric Project (100 MW).
HPPCL Managing Director D K Sharma said that the award was presented by A M Chakrabarti, former Chief Secretary of West Bengal government at a function organized at Novatel Hotel, Kolkata.
“The award was received by Rakesh Sood, Chief Environment Specialist, HPPCL and Ajay Kumar Bisht, Deputy General Manager (Quality Control), HPPCL,” Sharma said, adding that the award has been bestowed upon HPPCL for implementing Environmental Management Plan (EMP) meticulously for its Sainj Hydroelectric Project.
Sharma said Sainj Hydroelectric Project has been contemplated as a run-of river development on river Sainj, a tributary of river Beas in Kullu district.
The project comprises of a diversion barrage on the river Sainj near village Niharni and underground power house on the right bank of river Sainj near village Suind.
The project will generate 322 Million units per annum. The project will be commissioned by August, 2015.
Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd. religiously complies with conditions and stipulations of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) contained in the clearance letter of the Projects. HPPCL also observes compliance with the Asian Development Bank’s environmental safeguards.
All the approved Environmental Management Plans are being implemented diligently with a view to ensure safeguarding environment. Project designs are aligned to achieve minimum environmental disturbance. All contractors of HPPCL are also bound to environmental protection through appropriate provisions of contract.
Sharma added that this award is recognition of the best environmental practices adopted by HPPCL at its Project sites.
