Former CM Beant Singh's killer Jagtar Singh Tara arrested

Indian security agencies and Thailand authorities on Monday night arrested Jagtar Singh Tara, alleged killer of former Punjab CM Beant Singh.

As per reports, Gurmeet Singh alias Jagtar Singh Tara, who had fled from Burail Jail in Chandigarh in 2004, has been arrested from Thailand’s eastern province, Chonbury.

Ludhiana MP and the grandson of Beant Singh, Ravneet Singh Bittu has congratulated the Punjab police and Indian intelligence agencies for arresting Babbar Khalsa terrorist Jagtar Singh Tara alias Gurmeet Singh.

It is pertinent to mention here that Jagtar Singh Tara along with Jagtar Singh Hawara, Paramjeet Singh Bhyora and Devi Singh had conducted blast in former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh’s car outside State Secretariat in Chandigarh on August 31, 1995.

Tara was arrested by the police in 1996 but he managed to escape from Burail Jail in Chandigarh after digging a tunnel along with his three accomplices.

While Hawara and Bhyora were arrested by the Delhi Police’s crime branch from Patiala and Jammu, Tara and Singh had fled to Pakistan via Nepal.

Devi Singh is reportedly living under fictitious name of Lucky Singh in Pakistan while Tara had crossed over to Thailand’s eastern province Chonbury in October from where he was arrested security agencies.
