Central University of HP would be set up only at Dharamshala: CM

Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh on Wednesday said that he had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for opening of Central University at Dharamshala.

He said that Anurag Thakur, MP Hamirpur and Ravinder Ravi, MLA Dehra were involved in cheap politics over opening of Central University at a particular place. He said main campus of the proposed university would be set up in Dharamshala though there was no restriction of opening other institutes at other places.

He said it was the then Union Minister P. Chidambram who announced opening of Central University in Kangra distrct in Himachal Pradesh in a function held at Ridge Shimla and at the same time he also announced to open IIT in Mandi. He said that Dharamshala was headquarters of Kangra district and a central place and doing politics on area specific was not an ideology of Congress and he considered Himachal as one.

Virbhadra Singh said educational institutions of high repute were already established in Hamirpur parliamentary constituency such as NIT, NIHM, Technical University and AIIMS would be opened in Bilaspur besides many higher education institutes in Una district.

Replying to another question Virbhadra Singh said that the demand of former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal of inquiring assets by Lokayukta Himachal Pradesh was not possible as there were allegations of his having assets at other places which can only be probed by a national agency like CBI.

Replying to question regarding expansion in the Cabinet, Chief Minister said that there was no proposal as yet.
