Former chief minister and opposition leader Prem Kumar Dhumal on Monday criticized state government for failing to take prompt action on natural disasters.

Dhumal said that it was the reason that Kullu administration gave permission to tourists for traveling up to Rohtang Pass despite Indian Meteorological Department warning on heavy snowfall and rain in the state.

“Despite the fact, many tourists were given permission to travel upto Rohtang Pass. When the snowfall started, there were around 800 tourists stuck at Marhi along with 2000 tourists on the route who were rescued by the locals,” he said.

He said that this careless attitude of the administration would have led to major accident which could have loss to the lives of people visiting the state.

“It seems that the state government had not taken any lessons from previous disasters. The government should understand that disaster management means taking pre-emptive measures before any accident and not after the incident has happened,” he added.
