Himachal Election Department would introduce None Of The Above (NOTA) option for the first time in the upcoming bye-elections of Panchayati Raj Institutions.
The Panchayat bye-elections would be held on November 30 to fill 232 vacant posts of Panchayat representatives
State Election Commissioner T G Negi said as EVM machines are not used in panchayat polls, NOTA option would be included in ballot papers in the upcoming bye-elections. “The NOTA option would be included in last section after the candidates’ names,” Negi said.
It is pertinent to mention here that bye-election would be held in ward 1 of Zila Parishad, Kangra, ward 1 of Zila Parishad, Kinnaur, 13 posts of members of Panchayat Samiti, 32 posts of Pradhan, 24 posts of Up Pradhan and 160 posts of members of Gram Panchayata. In addition to this, bye-election for vacant post of ward No 6 of Nagar Panchayat Sarkaghat in Mandi district would also be held on November 30.
Negi added that state Election department is trying to conduct upcoming Panchayati Raj Institutions elections, scheduled to be held in 2015 as per the voter list of Vidhan Sabha elections.
He added that the Election department is trying to get the approval of the Election Commission of India for the same. Now, the voter list of assembly elections would be prepared on the basis of the wards in each constituency.
