First Earth Heroes Award conferred on West Bengal's PNHZP zoo

India’s largest high altitude zoo, Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park (PNHZP) in West Bengal has been selected for the first Royal Bank of Scotland ‘Earth Heroes Awards 2014’.

Setup in 1958 in Darjeeling at a height of 7,000 ft, PNHZP competed with over 300 zoos of the world to win

this coveted prize.

The Royal Bank of Scotland along with World Association of Zoos and Aquariums would confer the on PNHZP in New Delhi today.

The zoo is internationally recognized for its breeding programs to conserve endangered species as Red Panda, Snow Leopards, Tibetan Wolf that are found in eastern Himalayas.

It is also the only specialized zoo in the country.
