China on Monday criticized the US government for its call to stop construction on a new artificial island on Fiery Coast Reef in disputed Spratly Islands and termed its action as justifiable.

Calling the US authorities biased, China has reiterated its indisputable sovereignty over islands, located in South China Sea and its adjacent waters.

China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying on Monday said that no one has the right to make irresponsible comments on country’s activities.

Several countries including Brunei, Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam has staked claimed over the Spratly Islands and China’s move to build an island in the disputed waters is likely to draw sharp reaction from these countries.

As per reports, satellite imagery of the South China sea reveals that Chinese military had built 3,000 metres by 400-500 metres island on Fiery Cross Reef in the last three months. The artificial island seems to have been large enough to build an airfield.

Over the period of last three months, the Chinese military had stationed piers, air-defence guns, communications equipment and greenhouse.

It is pertinent to mention here that US authorities had called on China to halt the construction of artificial island and initiate diplomatic measures with other countries who stakes claim to the Spratly Island of Fiery Cross Reef.
