Seven persons including two women were reportedly killed while nine others suffered after a private bus fell into gorge in Nohradhar area of Sirmaur district on Sunday morning.
As per reports, the private bus was on its way to Rajgarh from Ratwa village when it fell into 700 ft deep gorge near Nohradhar at around 8.45 am.
“The driver reportedly lost the control over vehicle while negotiating a turn and the bus fell into the gorge. Seven persons have been killed in the accident while nine others have suffered serious injuries in the accident,” said the police.
Police said that four injured persons had been admitted to hospital at Rajgarh and Haripurdhar while five critically injured persons had been referred to Zonal hospital at Solan.
“The deceased had been identified as the driver of the bus Kapil, Dharam Pal, Sant Ram, Anjana, Lakshmi, Man Singh, Jagdish and Yashpal,” Negi said, adding that most of the victims were local.
Police and rescue officials had tough time in extricating bodies as the bus was badly mangled due to the fall.
Eyewitnesses said that the condition of the road where the accident took place was bad.
A case has been registered in this regard and further investigations in the matter are on to find out the exact cause of the accident.
It is pertinent to mention here that this was the fourth major accident in Sirmaur, one of remotest places in the state involving a privately-owned bus in less than two years in which over 60 people have lost their lives.
Himachal Governor Urmila Singh and Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh expressed grief over the incident and expressed their sympathies with the bereaved family members.
The Chief Minister had directed the district administration to take all possible measures to rescue the survivors and provide them adequate relief.
