Fourteen persons including two children and three have been reportedly killed while 10 others suffered injuries after a private bus fell into gorge in Saluni Sub-Division of Chamba district on Saturday afternoon.
As per reports, the incident took place at around 2.45 pm when the private bus was on its way to Himgiri from Chamba, around 50-60 kilometres from the district headquarters.
“The private bus fell into 700 metres deep gorge near Shool Nala near Himgiri in Saluni Sub Division in Chamba district, however, the exact cause behind the accident could not ascertained as yet,” police said.
He said that being a remote and network shadow area, the district administration received the report late after which the rescue teams were rushed to the spot from Salooni and Tissa police stations. “By the time, rescue officials reached the spot, the relatives of the victims had rescued injured and took them to nearby hospitals,” he said.
He said that death toll could rise further as the rescue operation was still on and most of the victims were from Himgiri and nearby villages.
Himachal Governor Urmila Singh and Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh have mourned the death of 14 passengers in a private bus accident near Himgiri in Chamba district.
In her condolence message, the Governor has expressed sympathies with the next to the kin of the deceased and prayed for the peace of the departed souls.
Expressing grief over the deaths, the Chief Minister said that he was pained over the tragic mishap. He expressed the condolences with the families who lost their near and dear ones in the tragic mishap and wished speedy recovery to the injured.
Chief Minister said that a sum of Rs 10,000 each has been given as an immediate relief to the next of the kin of the deceased and Rs 5,000 each to the injured. He also directed medical authorities to provide best treatment to the injured.
Transport Minister G S Bali has also mourned the death of 14 passengers and expressed his sympathies with the bereaved family members.
