New Delhi/October 22 (NG News)
Eight persons have been arrested by Delhi Police’s Special Cell for duping people of crores of rupees on the pretext of securing a chance for them to appear in famous quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati, hosted by Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan.

As per reports, the scam was being carried out from Pakistan from the past one year in which people would get calls from numbers beginning with +92 where the cons would claim to calling from KBC.

“The accused would tell the victims that they have been selected for appearing on KBC and they have won Rs 30 lakh. To convince unsuspecting victims, the cons would make them talk to a person who would fake the voice of Amitabh Bachchan and assured them that it was not a prank call,” police said.

After convincing the victims, the accused would ask them to deposit KBC admission fee, ranging between Rs 10,000-25,000 but as soon as the victims deposit the cash in given account numbers, the cons would switch off the phone number.

Police officials said that the money might have been used to fund terror activities as they have received input from Intelligence agencies that a group of cheats from Pakistan or Saudi Arabia was conning people in India.

On the basis of a tipoff, Special Cell carried out raids in Delhi and arrested Umar Ali, Rakesh Raut, Hussain, Vikas Saroj Sutar along with three Hawala operators Mahendra Singhal, Naresh Bansal and Ravi Gupta.

Police advised the victims who have cheated in this manner to contact Special Cell ACP on phone number 011-24646142 or investigating officer Dharmender on 87508-71525.
