Indian army soldier arrested on charges of spying for Pak

An Indian Army soldier from Palampur area of Himachal’s Kangra district was on Friday arrested by the sleuths of UP Police for allegedly passing on secret information related to army to Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) agency.

As per reports, 20 years army soldier, Sunit, a native of Andreta village in Palampur area and was posted at Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, has been arrested by UP police who were assisted army intelligence officials and local police.

Police sources said that the youth had allegedly passed sensitive details of Indian Army on social networking site Facebook with a women allegedly working for ISI. “Sunit was allegedly lured by the spy agency ISI on Facebook and ISI woman agent lured him for a laptop in lieu of providing her the information about Indian Army knowingly or unknowingly. The UP police is trying to ascertain that what secret information he had shared with the ISI agent,” sources added.

Police officials said that they were informed by UP Police regarding the arrest of army soldier as he was a wanted in criminal case in the state but they did not have any information regarding the criminal charges.

Sunit Kumar was recruited in the army in 2012 and had come to his home three days back. UP Police’s Special Task Force (STF) in a joint operation with Kangra police on Friday morning raided the house of army soldier and also seized a laptop, mobile and some documents in his possession. The accused has now been taken to Meerut on transit remand.
