Punjab government hikes bus fares by 8 paisa per kilometer

Punjab government on Monday increased bus fares bus fare of private as well as state transport by 8 paisa per kilometer and now, passengers will have to pay 91 paisa from the present 83 paisa per kilometer.
Transport minister Ajit Singh Kohar said that Punjab cabinet took the decision to hike bus fares after sympathetically considering the demand of the bus operators and escalation of crude oil price in the international market.
Kohar said that the state government has also decided to challan overload trucks, expired school buses and overloaded indigenous modified vehicles (Gharukas) and transport department officials have been directed to check the overloading cases of vehicle duly visiting the sites of computerized weighing machines.
