The Department of Mathematics of Himachal Pradesh University will organizing an Advanced Instructional School (AIS) on ‘Diophantine Equations’ with effect from June 16, 2014 to July 4, 2014.
A HPU spokesperson said that this program is sponsored by National Centre for Mathematics (NCM) and supported by National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM). “Forty (40) candidates are selected from various reputed institutions (IITs), Universities and colleges to participate in this program and Prof S Akhtari, Oregon University USA, Prof Shanta Laishram, Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) New Delhi, Prof A Mukhopadhyaya, Institute of Mathematical Sciences (IMSc) Chennai, Prof C S Rajan, TIFR, Mumbai, Prof N Saradha, TIFR, Mumbai, Prof A Chandrakant Sharma, IISER, Mohali and Prof R Thangadurai, HRI, Allahabad would address students during the program.
The Chairperson Department of Mathematics Dr Veena Sharma and organizing secretary Dr P L Sharma said that the National Centre for Mathematics (NCM) under the support of National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM) sanction every year nine Advanced Instructional Schools (AIS) in different areas of the Mathematics to various reputed institutes of the country to conduct this program. The Department of Mathematics of University has got this opportunity for the first time to conduct the aforesaid AIS.
