In order to encourage meritorious students of the state, Himachal government will provide an incentive of Rs 75,000 to any student getting admission in prestigious institutions like IITs, IIMs and AIIMs.
A Himachal government official said that students who manage to crack prestigious exams as IIT-JEE or CAT, will be given an incentive of Rs 75,000 to encourage them.
“The state government is also paying special attention for making education job oriented and has launched National Vocational Education Qualification Framework for the students from 9th to 12th class with the choice of five vocations in 100 Senior Secondary Schools of the state,” said the government official.
These vocations include Information Technology Enabled Service (ITES), Security, Retail, Automobile and Health Care for 9th to 12th students and 9,000 students have been enrolled under the scheme so far, he said.
He said that the state government has also decided to extend vocational education in another 100 Government Senior Secondary Schools with three new courses i.e. Agriculture, Hospitality and Tourism and Electronics and Hardware to improve employability of students.
He added that for expanding the use of Information Technology in schools, 618 Government Senior Secondary Schools, 848 High Schools and 5 Smart Schools were being covered under ICT at School Scheme (Phase II) during 2014-15.
“Besides this, as many as 200 vocational teachers are being appointed in these schools in the academic session 2014-15 and the state government has also decided to conduct annual examination of 5th and 8th classes at school level in order to improve the learning levels of students,” he added.
