Himachal government on Thursday rubbished the allegations of corruption that were leveled by former DGP I D Bhandari yesterday against Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and other senior government officials, terming the allegations as wild and unfounded.
A HP government spokesperson said that the allegations against the state government and its law enforcing agencies appear to be an outburst of a frustrated officer nurturing political ambitions. “Investigation in the phone tapping case is in the final stages and chargesheet would be filed in the court soon,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesman said that the state government as per its election promise, soon after taking over the reins in the state, initiated probe into the illegal phone tapping along with other cases of corruption and malpractices during the previous government tenure. “Feeling the heat of the probe, Bhandari is issuing such baseless and unfounded statements at the behest of his political mentors,” he said.
He said that there was widespread public opinion regarding illegal phone tapping done during the BJP regime and accordingly action was taken by the government as per the law of the land. He said that the record was taken in possession by the government in order to ensure that the same was not destroyed after the change in government in the state. He said that now when the people were hoping that the defaulters would be brought to book, those involved in this unlawful act were making unnecessary hue and cry.
“It is unfortunate that senior officer after retirement is critical of the action of the state government whereas he is part of the government few days back. It seems that Bhandari is airing his frustration in public which is uncalled for and is an indication of his political alliance with the BJP,” the spokesperson.
He said that it was unfortunate that the BJP during its own tenure has completely politicized the official machinery and officers. “This act of the former DGP is a fittest example of saffronization of official machinery and Bhandari is speaking the language of BJP. Nobody is surprised of his outburst as soon after retirement he had made his political ambitions clear,” he said.
He added that the state government did not need a certificate from anybody regarding its functioning and especially from Bhandari.
“As regarding the false allegation leveled by Bhandari against the Principal Private Secretary of the Chief Minister, the case was framed during the tenure of the BJP. It was on record that after investigation and examination of the evidences, the case was sent to the Government of India for prosecution and the Centre Government gave clean chit to the officer by denying approval for prosecution,” he added.
He advised Bhandari to refrain himself from giving such politically motivated statements as this would not stop the state government from investigating illegal phone tapping case and bring the culprits to books.
