Seventeen persons were killed while twenty others suffered injuries in a bus accident in Shillai area of Himachal’s Sirmaur district today.
As per reports, the incident took place in the afternoon today when a bus fell in deep gorge in Shillai after the driver lost control over the vehicle while negotiating a sharp turn. “The injured persons were rushed to Shillai hospital where they are undergoing treatment at the hospital and the condition of five persons is said to be critical,” said the police.
Police said that the deceased persons have been identified as Dimpal (12), Attar Singh (38), Nisha (35), Vir Singh (37), Santosh (17), Chander Kala (17), Tapender (14) Jayanti Devi (40) and Santo (45). “Most of the deceased belong to Milla and Magnal village while one of the deceased was from village Phadog,” the police said.
Meanwhile, police have registered a case of negligent driving and they are further investigating the matter to ascertain the exact cause behind the accident.
The Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, Governor Urmila Singh and Transport Minister G S Bali have expressed deep shock and grief over the tragedy and directed the administration to provide all possible help to the victims.
The Chief Minister has directed the district administration for medical treatment of the injured besides ensuring all possible assistance. The district administration has provided immediate relief of Rs. 20,000 each to the family members of the deceased and Rs. 15,000 to the injured.
Transport Minister G S Bali has also condoled the death of 17 and he has ordered to constitute a committee under the chairmanship of SDM, Paonta Sahib which will submit its report within 15 days besides constituting a Technical Committee to ascertain the causes of the accident.Police said that they have registered a case of negligent driving and they are further investigating the matter to ascertain the real cause behind the accident.
