Himachal Congress Chief Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday welcomed the move of Congress led UPA government for granting ex-servicemen pension on the principal of ‘One Rank One Pension’ and said that the decision will benefit more than 10 lakh ex-servicemen, serving soldiers, widows, war widows, gallantry award winners and their dependents in the state.
Sukhu congratulated the ex-servicemen of the state and said that by accepting the genuine demand of ‘One Rank, One Pension’ of ex-servicemen and allocating Rs 500 crore for this purpose, Congress led UPA government had fulfilled its promises made to the armed forces of the country. “Himachal Pradesh is one of the biggest contributors of manpower to the Armed Forces and more than 10 lakh ex-servicemen, serving soldiers, widows, war widows, gallantry award winners and their dependents will benefit from this decision as a soldier’s pension will now be determined by his rank and length of service,” Sukhu said.
HPCC President said that the people of Himachal are proud to all its serving Soldiers and ex-servicemen who have won laurels in the battle field and brought honour to the country and to the state as well.
He said that the Congress government in Himachal has already introduced several schemes for the welfare of the ex-servicemen, serving soldiers and for their dependents. Further, special financial grants were also being provided to the Gallantry Award/Distinguished Services Award winners and the martyrs/disabled soldiers.
He welcomed the interim budget which was presented in Parliament and thanked UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Finance Minister P Chidambaram and AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi for accepting the long pending demand of ex-servicemen for granting them pension on the principle of ‘One Rank One Pension’. Sukhu also thanked Congress leadership for Rs 1200 crore additional Central Assistance that will be provided to the North-Eastern states including Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
